HIGH PASTURE
Once the ski season is over, the pastures are prepared; fences are put up and grass lands are cleaned so as to welcome the herd at the beginning of June. This part of the farming domain comprises several pastures at Tresseleyre, les Plans, Mayen, Ver-Bas as well as other local mountain areas. The local herd is increased during this period by cattle from the valley.
This allows the farms in the valley to focus on their crops.
The 100 to 120 days in the mountain pastures are like “vacations” for the cattle. The pure air of Leysin’s alpine pastures and sunshine are good beneficial to the cattle.
The Biodiversity of alpine plants is enriched through the interaction of the cattle with the earth and plants and participates in maintaining the alpine ecosystem.

Our practice is to rotate the herd on a regular basis (by foot) from one pasture to another to fulfill the needs of the cattle through natural grass.
Our herd in the alpine pastures is composed of the mother cows with their calves and the bull. They move freely in their designated areas.
The cows, like all mothers, protect their young. For this reason it is advised to pay attention while hiking, above all with a dog, in their territory.
The delicate balance of nature requires harmonious upkeep, and the presence of the cattle contributes to keeping certain invasive and undesirable plants to a minimum.
It also shortens the grass so that during the winter season, everyone has open space to enjoy the winter sports.
The presence of the cattle in the alpine pastures also gives an image of a traditional Switzerland and attracts tourism and a encourages a return to nature.
The presence of the cows, the sound of their bells, takes us back to our memories of childhood, fulfills our dreams and offers us moments of simplicity and well-being.
